Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Neary (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Neary mobile application (the “App”).
1. Who we are
Neary is a hyperlocal social discovery app that helps people see who is nearby at landmarks, send handshake requests, chat in a landmark room, and optionally share contact details after both sides accept.

2. Information we collect
- Account data: Firebase Authentication identifiers. You may start as a guest (anonymous account) or sign in with Google.
- Profile data: display name, optional profile photo, optional phone number (E.164), and visibility preference.
- Location data: approximate or precise location while the App is in use, to place you in a landmark and show nearby people when you choose to be visible.
- Presence / session data: active landmark session, last heartbeat, and coordinates accuracy used for nearby ordering.
- Social / connection data: handshake requests, intro messages, accept/reject status, and contact exchanges created after an accepted handshake.
- Chat data: landmark room messages you send (text, author display name, timestamps).
- Device / service data: basic technical information needed to run Firebase and advertising SDKs (such as device identifiers used by Google services).
3. How we use information
- Operate core App features (landmarks, nearby presence, handshakes, chat).
- Show your public profile (name, photo, visibility) to other users at the same landmark when you are visible.
- Share phone numbers only after both users complete an accepted handshake.
- Secure accounts, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
- Show ads through Google AdMob.
- Respond to support or privacy requests.
4. How we share information
- Other users: name and photo may be visible to authenticated users near your landmark when your profile is visible. Phone numbers are shared with a specific other user only after mutual handshake acceptance.
- Service providers: Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage) and Google AdMob process data on our behalf to run the App and ads.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect users’ safety and rights.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Location
Location is used to determine your current landmark and nearby presence. You can deny or revoke location permission in device settings, but core nearby features will not work without it. We design visibility so you can hide your profile from nearby discovery while using the App.
6. Advertising
The App uses Google AdMob to show ads (for example banner ads). AdMob may collect or receive device and usage information according to Google’s policies. See Google’s advertising and privacy documentation for details. You can manage advertising preferences through your device/Google settings where available.
7. Data retention
We keep information while your account is active and as needed to provide the App. If you delete your account in the App, we delete your Firebase Authentication user. Some related Firebase content may remain orphaned until cleaned up. You can contact us to request deletion assistance.
8. Your choices
- Edit profile name, photo, phone, and visibility in the App.
- Control location and photo permissions in device settings.
- Sign in with Google or continue as a guest.
- Delete your account from Profile (where available).
- Email privacy requests to hello@brainedge.dev.
9. Children’s privacy
Neary is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the App, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Security
We use industry-standard providers (Firebase/Google) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
11. International processing
Your information may be processed in countries where Google/Firebase operate, which may differ from your home country.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date.
